Jar Jar Binks has been the butt of Star Wars‘ fans jokes for a quarter century now and it seems he’s finally had enough. Gone is the bumbling comedy Gungan and in its place is a fearsome red lightsaber-wielding Sith Lord who travels in an evil Millennium Falcon.

His one line to date: “Meesa gonna hurt yousa…”. This is quite a development for Jar Jar, so why is he a Sith Lord and what in the name of Boss Nass is going on?!

Rebuild the Galaxy

Fans have long theorized that Jar Jar’s affable demeanor concealed something far darker. After all, it was his actions as a Senator that granted Chancellor Palpatine the emergency powers necessary to enact his evil plans. The canon take is that this was a classic Jar Jar oopsie, but what if he was playing the long game?

What if Jar Jar was secretly a dark practitioner of the Sith all along, concealing his power under the innocent facade of a bumbling amphibious clown? Amusing fan art has long wondered what “Darth Jar Jar” would look like, but now we have the official take courtesy of LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy.

This upcoming animated special sees the basics of Star Wars mutating beyond recognition. There are X-wing/TIE Fighter hybrids, Ewok bounty hunters, and, yes, Darth Jar Jar. As a LEGO special, the events of Rebuild the Galaxy are firmly non-canon so don’t expect to see this followed up in live-action. Even so, the trailer shows a sense of fun and imagination that’s been a little lacking in the franchise of late, so we’re very much tuning in.

And yes, if you’re wondering that is indeed original Jar Jar actor Ahmed Best once again reprising his most notorious role.

LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy will be released on Disney Plus on Sept. 13.

Censorship in media is as common as bared skin on Instagram, but when it limits what our children have access to it becomes a much bigger problem.

There is certainly content that young children should not have access to, but when its contained within Bluey, one of the most popular kids shows out there, its damaging potential is massively reduced. Add to that the fact that the content is only restricted in certain areas of the world, and it becomes even more eyebrow-raising.

Bluey exists as easily one of the most beloved children shows of the current adolescent generation, and the content it covers in its heartfelt, family-centric episodes is specifically aimed toward children. It doesn’t cover any inappropriate topics across its three seasons, but it does occasionally find ways to cover vital or unique conversations that other shows shy away from.

One such instance of progressive-minded storytelling was contained within season 2 episode “Dad Baby,” which Disney Plus refuses to air.

Why won’t Disney Plus air “Dad Baby?”

Bluey
Image via YouTube

For viewers outside of Bluey‘s native Australia, the charming kid’s show is available to enjoy over on Disney Plus. The streaming service offers up all three seasons of the series, excepting a single season 2 episode. That episode, titled “Dad Baby,” takes on the topic of pregnancy and birth in the show’s typically playful manner, but it also doesn’t shy away from some of the harsh (but accurate) realities of growing a family.

Cleverly discussing the challenges of being pregnant as well as the process of childbirth through a lens of playtime, the episode sees as Bandit (Bluey and Bingo’s father) mimes motherhood. He pretends to be pregnant with Bingo, contained within a front-facing harness, and ultimately “births” his second child in an outdoor pool.

Its mature subject matter, to be sure, but even that description makes it sound more serious than it is. The entire episode is presented in a thoroughly child-friendly way, despite its capable handling of the subject matter.

Despite that fact, it persists as the only episode of Bluey that’s inaccessible on Disney Plus. The streamer refuses to add the educational episode to its lineup, and after months of pushing it seems Ludo Studio, which holds the rights to Bluey, is tired of waiting. Its made the episode available for free, effectively side-stepping Disney’s stubborn censorship.

Where to watch “Dad Baby”

Well, for starters, you can watch it above. The episode was made available on YouTube for anyone to enjoy for free, and Disney can’t do a thing about it. Ludo Studio was willing to offer up the episode at no cost rather than let it be erased, and viewers interested in educating their kids on pregnancy and childbirth can tune in whenever they want.

The following article contains spoilers for X-Men ’97

The nostalgic ride that we call X-Men ‘97 is about to come to an end. At least the end of season 1.

Since its premiere, the continuation of X-Men: The Animated Series, brought fans together. An effectual season 6 of the beloved series, X-Men ‘97 updates the classic team of mutants for the new era. While it takes place in the titular year, the new challenges that Xavier’s squad face are metaphors for current events. The series starts strong when insurrectionists storm a government building, all in the name of their backward idealogy. (Sound familiar?)

These concerns escalate further until the attack heard around the world. The terrorist threat against the mutant haven, Genosha, sadly echoes real-life tragedies that occurred at community safe places like Pulse Nightclub in Orlando. Per Deadline, Former showrunner Beau DeMayo took to social media to explain the context of why the episode delved into dark territory. Fan-favorites such as Gambit (A.J. LoCascio) and Magneto (Matthew Waterson) lose their lives because of bigotry and hate, pushing Rogue (Lenore Zann) into a state of mind never thought possible.

X-Men ‘97 is everything the comic series is supposed to be, which is why the new season is so popular. X-Men was always a metaphor for prejudice in real life and continues to be relevant to this day. However, one change has been implemented in the new season. Unlike previous seasons that contained a wealth of episodes, X-Men ‘97 will conclude at only 10 this season.

When does the X-Men ‘97 finale premiere?

Sadly, new television seasons no longer span over the course of a year with a combination of filler and serialized episodes. Fans must accept truncated seasons that race toward the end at break-neck speed. The beginning of the X-Men ‘97 finale is heralded not by the Horseman of Apocalypse, but the culmination of many different storylines coming to a head. After the attack on Genosha, Xavier (Ross Marquand) realizes he must return to earth and unite with his Children of the Atom. Bastion’s (Theo James) evil plans come to fruition as it appears Magneto did not perish after all. And Scott’s (Ray Chase) realization that Cable (Chris Potter) is his son may bring about an exciting end.

The finale starts on May 1, which is the first three parts. As per usual, Disney Plus will drop the episode, entitled “Tolerance Is Extinction,” at midnight PST and 3 AM EST. The following two parts will air weekly at the same time, with “Tolerance Is Extinction Part II” airing on May 8 and “Part III” on May 15. Thus concludes X-Men ‘97. But, hopefully, just for now.

The twilight of the first season of X-Men ’97 has officially begun, with part one of the show’s three part finale “Tolerance Is Extinction” now available to stream on Disney Plus as of this morning.

Over these next three episodes, the X-Men will be going up against their most heinous foe yet in Bastion, the ringleader of Operation Zero Tolerance who seeks to wipe out all mutants so that they don’t replace humans as the dominant species. He’s accomplishing this by… replacing humans with Prime Sentinels as the dominant species so that they can all go exterminate mutants.

Divided, the X-Men fought back against the sudden wave of elite robot soldiers to the best of their ability; Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Cable in the town of Harmony, Pennsylvania; Beast, Wolverine, Morph, and Nightcrawler at the fated X-Mansion, guarding a still-unconscious Rogue; Jubilee and Sunspot falling victim to an arrest in Brazil; and Storm still MIA for the time being.

Salvation came in the form of Magneto, who was released from his restraints by a guilt-ridden Valerie Cooper, and traveled to the North Pole. From here, he sent an electromagnetic pulse across the globe, disabling all the Prime Sentinels and effectively declaring war on humans at the same moment that Charles Xavier crashed back down to Earth.

Rogue and Magneto share a moment in X-Men 97

As this is all happening, Bastion angrily forces Valerie to take Magneto’s place as his prisoner, where she delivered the monologue that was heard across the Marvel fandom. Comparing the events on Genosha (where Valerie was present at the time of the attack) to “déjà vu,” with respect to how humanity always seems to swing back to a mutant-extinction event of some kind, she notes how Magneto always knew that as a truth about humanity before uttering “Magneto was right” (a phrased she furthermore prefaced by saying how unthinkable of a thought it was). Xavier returned to Earth shortly after, and summoned his X-Men.

Indeed, even when mutants had a peaceful home away from the rest of humanity, they still faced persecution, albeit at the hands of a conspiratorial attack from a megalomaniacal android. And unfortunately, self-defense is only a necessity of the aggressor’s making, and Bastion and his Prime Sentinels just poked one of the most dangerous bears in the Marvel Universe.

X-Men ’97 is currently streaming on Disney Plus, with new episodes releasing every Wednesday until the season finale on May 15. A second season is currently in production, while a third is also being developed.

The MCU spinoff you thought Disney Plus had ditched for good just received the news we’ve been waiting for https://wegotthiscovered.com/marvel/the-mcu-spinoff-you-thought-disney-plus-had-ditched-for-good-just-received-the-news-weve-been-waiting-for/ https://wegotthiscovered.com/marvel/the-mcu-spinoff-you-thought-disney-plus-had-ditched-for-good-just-received-the-news-weve-been-waiting-for/#respond Mon, 29 Apr 2024 12:22:32 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.com/?p=1688758 Took them long enough! ]]>

Once Deadpool & Wolverine is out the way this summer, the next major MCU release to come in 2024 will be Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, the long-awaited WandaVision spinoff starring Kathryn Hahn’s wickedly fun witch. This isn’t the only WV offshoot in development, though, even if Marvel has been trying to make us forget its existence for the longest time.

Way back in 2022, we learned work had begun on Vision Quest, set to bring Paul Bettany back as White Vision, last seen flying off into MCU limbo in the WandaVision finale. At first glance, last year’s strikes seemed to kill this one stone-dead, however, when showrunner Jac Schaeffer and her team removed the show from their WGA profiles. And yet updated intel seems to confirm that Vision Quest lives — and that it starts production in a matter of months.

According to a rumor shared by Scarlet Witch Updates on X (formerly Twitter), which was then given a lot more credence by a Production Weekly listing, Vision Quest is all set to go before cameras in the U.K. this October — around the same time sister show Agatha will hit Disney Plus.

Exactly who is involved with the series, beyond Bettany himself, remains a mystery, as we don’t even know if WandaVision and Agatha EP Schaeffer is still on board or not. That said, we’re pretty certain Joe Locke will reprise his role as Not Wiccan from Agatha, which hopefully means that we’ll be meeting the grown-up Tommy/Speed as well, Vision’s other twin son. An Elizabeth Olsen cameo as Scarlet Witch would also be ideal, but she is technically dead in MCU canon, remember.

Marvel has a serious backlog of streaming series at present — including Daredevil: Born Again, Wonder Man, and Ironheart — so in a way it’s surprising to hear the studio is moving forward with Vision Quest. On the other hand, the superhero synthezoid is one of the franchise’s longest-running characters at this point so the project does fall in line with Bob Iger’s decree that Marvel should only focus on its most valuable IP from now on.

We’ve been requesting elaboration on this one for the longest time, and it looks like our patience might soon pay off.

Admit it: you haven’t been this excited for an MCU movie since Spider-Man: No Way Home, right? Deadpool & Wolverine just keeps on delivering the goods as its expertly crafted marketing machine rolls on, with its second trailer packing more of a punch than Hugh Jackman’s Logan himself.

Brilliantly, though, much of the plot still remains a mystery, even if now we know that Jackman is back as an alternate Wolverine variant who let down his entire universe. If this sounds like an excuse to wheel out some legacy X-Men stars for gratuitous cameos, then call yourself Professor X, because you must be psychic. The second trailer confirms a bunch of returning faces we didn’t know to expect until now. First up…

Giant-Man’s head

Yes, the literal biggest cameo in the trailer regards the deceased Giant-Man head that Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin) and her cronies are apparently using as a hideout. It’s giving us Knowhere from Guardians of the Galaxy, but with more deceased Paul Rudd flavor. P.S. What is with the MCU and its obsession with beheading Ant-Man? (See also the zombie episode of What If…?).

Lady Deathstrike

If you pull your attention away from the desiccated remains of Scott Lang, you might notice some familiar figures hanging out in front of Club Giant-Man. For starters, the lady in the ponytail and in desperate need of a manicure looks to be Lady Deathstrike, seemingly confirming that Kelly Hu will be reprising her fan-favorite villain role from X-Men 2.

Azazel

Even easier to spot is the red-skinned fella on the other side of the frame from Deathstrike. This is Azazel, as played by Jason Flemying as part of Kevin Bacon’s Hellfire Club in X-Men: First Class. Azazel’s inclusion is actually unique, as he is currently the only cast member from the prequel films to be known to appear in DP3.

Toad

What happens to a Toad when it cameos in a Deadpool & Wolverine trailer? The same thing that happens to everything else. That’s right, although he’s harder to spot than Deathstrike and Azazel, the wall-climbing member of Magneto’s Brotherhood can be glimpsed to the left of Kelly Hu’s character — note his distinctive hunched stance. This is the Ray Park version from 2000’s X-Men, not the younger take from X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Alioth

Alioth in the Deadpool & Wolverine trailer
Screenshot via Marvel Studios

Deadpool & Wolverine doubles down on its Loki tie-ins in its second trailer with the presence of Alioth, the big smoke monster that dwells in the Void and killed James’ parents in James and the Giant Peach. This confirms yet against that the Mad Max-style wasteland in which much of the action appears to take place is indeed the Void.

Red Skull…’s car

Speaking of which, a familiar vehicle is shown being driven by the bad guys during the trailer — it’s Red Skull’s HYDRA-Mobile from Captain America: The First Avenger. Who knows, maybe ol’ crimson face himself could cameo, but it’s likely Johann Schmidt’s car is simply there as part of the endless detritus from the Marvel multiverse hanging around the Void.

At least one Master of the Mystic Arts

Deadpool and Wolverine jump into a sorcerer's portal
Screenshot via Marvel Studios

Here’s one of the more exciting mysteries presented by the trailer. At the promo’s climax, Wolvie and DP leap through what is unmistakably a sling ring portal. Yes, this is the MCU’s go-to visual effect for crossing universes at this point, but this does suggest a Master of the Mystic Arts could show up. Dare we hope for a Benedict Cumberbatch return as Doctor Strange? Honestly, though, it might be even more fun if it was Benedict Wong. Petition to change the title to Deadpool & Wolverine & Wongers.

Deadpool & Wolverine slashes into cinemas on July 26.

Is ‘Bluey’ ending? The surprise new episode, explained https://wegotthiscovered.com/tv/is-bluey-ending-the-surprise-new-episode-explained/ https://wegotthiscovered.com/tv/is-bluey-ending-the-surprise-new-episode-explained/#respond Mon, 22 Apr 2024 10:32:18 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.com/?p=1686031 Bluey has been a constant source of comfort, joy, and tail-wagging fun - will it continue?]]>

Just as the whispers about Bluey‘s demise grew louder, the creators have tossed us a truly delightful curveball.

Bluey, which follows the adventures of a young blue heeler puppy and her family, has captured the hearts of children and adults alike since its debut in 2018. The show’s relatable characters and heartwarming stories have made it a global phenomenon, with fans spanning from its native Australia to the United Kingdom and the United States. After 150+ episodes, everyone expected to say goodbye to Bluey.

However, a new episode titled “The Surprise” has dropped after just a week, catching fans off-guard in the best possible way. The decision to release “The Surprise” in such an unconventional manner was a deliberate choice by the Bluey‘s creators. Libbie Doherty, head of children and family at the ABC, explained that they wanted to give viewers a genuine surprise.

The episode comes on the heels of “The Sign,” that saw Bluey’s dad, Bandit, considering a move to another city. The episode’s emotional climax, which featured Bluey’s classmates rallying around her in a group hug, left many viewers reaching for the tissues

However, as we saw in The Surprise, Bandit ultimately decided against the move and removed the “For Sale” sign from their front. This act symbolizes the family’s decision to stay put, reaffirming their connection to their home and community, and dismissing any fears of an impending farewell. The episode also treated viewers to a heartwarming scene featuring a grown-up Bluey visiting her parents alongside her own little one.

This reassures us of the Heelers’ enduring presence and introduces a new generation, hinting at future adventures.

Is Bluey ending or no?

Given the emotional depth of “The Sign” and the forward-looking nature of “The Surprise,” fans might wonder if these episodes signal the end of the series. However, the answer is reassuringly negative. The show’s creators have made it clear that Bluey is far from over. With the affirmation that more episodes are on the horizon, it’s a sigh of relief that the series will continue to explore the lives of our favorite furry family. The introduction of new characters promises fresh stories that will maintain Bluey‘s beloved blend of humor and life lessons.

For those who enjoy the traditional TV experience, Bluey airs on ABC Kids in Australia. In the U.S. and U.K., you can find all the episodes ready to stream on Disney Plus.

Is ‘X-Men ’97’ a sequel? https://wegotthiscovered.com/marvel/is-x-men-97-a-sequel/ https://wegotthiscovered.com/marvel/is-x-men-97-a-sequel/#respond Fri, 19 Apr 2024 10:53:19 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.com/?p=1685109 Do you need to watch X-Men 1 through 96 before watching?]]>

X-Men ’97 has been one of Marvel’s most acclaimed projects in years. The animated series was pitched as a modern version of the X-Men series that ran from 1992-97, and the promo material for X-Men ’97 made it very clear that showrunner Beau De Mayo was consciously evoking the arcs and events that fans grew up watching. It was a spiritual successor.

The point of contention that some fans may have, however, is whether X-Men ’97 is a literal successor. It’s one thing to hearken back, but picking up where the story left off three decades prior is a very different undertaking.

The fine line between continuity and similarity is especially relevant for the X-Men. The mutant team has been the subject of a dozen live-action films since 2000, and the franchise has become infamous for its inability to maintain a singular, cohesive timeline. What happens in one X-Men film doesn’t usually carry over to the next. When it does, it’s almost surprising.

With that in mind, here’s a breakdown of X-Men ’97 and how it connects with its predecessor series.

X-Men ’97 starts where The Animated Series ended

Wolverine and Cyclops in X-Men 97

Continuity is back! Not only is X-Men ’97 emulating the style and characterizations of the animated series, but it’s picking up right where the story left off. Well, more or less. The events of the first episode of X-Men ’97 confirm that the new series takes place a year after the events of the original series. There are some huge changes to the X-Men roster, since Professor Charles Xavier (sort of) died in the finale of X-Men: The Animated Series, but for the most part, the show does a good job of maintaining the old while incorporating the new.

This tricky balance was something that Brad Winderbaum, the head Head of TV, Streaming, and Animation at Marvel Studios, was very mindful of. He told The Walt Disney Company that the goal of X-Men ’97 is not to reinvent the characters, but to add new dimension to characters we already know and love:

“[It] makes it feel like new, even though it’s old. It’s fun to have superhero stories told in a time before the Internet, before cellphones. It’s just a different rulebook that the players have to abide by.”

The legacy of Charles Xavier is something the rest of the X-Men have to grapple with throughout, which is a clever way of allowing fans to grapple with the legacy of the original series. Both are difficult to match in terms of quality, but this underdog element is what made the mutant team so easy to root for. “This is our opportunity with our new team to carry that torch,” Winderbaum added.

Is X-Men ’97 connected to the MCU?

X-Men '97 team

The ties between X-Men ’97 and X-Men: The Animated Series are well established for anyone who sees an episode. What’s less clear, however, is whether the former has any connection to the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe. Mutants have been introduced into the MCU courtesy of Miss Marvel, but it remains to be seen how the franchise plans on incorporating everybody’s favorite outcasts.

Brad Winderbaum clarified the MCU connection during a profile with Variety. He shot down the rumor that X-Men ’97 takes place in the main MCU timeline, but in an alternative timeline, which tracks given the franchise’s recent fascination with multiverses. “There is a universe of cartoons that we know,” Winderbaum noted. “Because of Loki and every other multiverse story, we know that if your brain wants to go there, you know there’s always potential for connections.” Fans may get to see these connections eventually, as X-Men ’97 has been renewed for two additional seasons.

X-Men ’97 is currently streaming on Disney Plus.

Who are the Imperial Guard in ‘X-Men ’97?’ https://wegotthiscovered.com/marvel/who-are-the-imperial-guard-in-x-men-97/ https://wegotthiscovered.com/marvel/who-are-the-imperial-guard-in-x-men-97/#respond Thu, 18 Apr 2024 10:16:43 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.com/?p=1684674 The alien superhero team have some unexpected DC Comics links!]]>

The sixth episode of Disney Plus’ brilliant X-Men ’97, “Lifedeath – Part 2,” introduced audiences to the Shi’ar Imperial Guard. While not the best in the series up to this point, the episode was a satisfying watch with a Storm-centric storyline performed excellently by voice actress Alison Sealy-Smith, who’s been consistently brilliant since the show began.

Taking influence from 1984’s seminal Uncanny X-Men “Lifedeath” arc, the episode’s somewhat rushed nature probably didn’t do its source material justice. However, introducing the Imperial Guard is undoubtedly exciting for Marvel fans.

The brief battle between the Shi’ar and the Kree is one of the most entertaining parts of the episode, and viewers of the series will be hoping for more of the same exciting action from the Imperial Guard now that the team is part of it.

For those who are unfamiliar with the Imperial Guard, they are an essential part of Marvel’s comic book history—and it’s certainly worth knowing more about them.

The Shi’ar Imperial Guard

The Shi'ar Imperial Guarid in Marvel's comic books
Image via Marvel Comics

Introduced in 1977’s X-Men #107, the Imperial Guard is a team of warriors who act as law enforcers for the Shi’ar Empire, an enormous assembly of extraterrestrial species, cultures, and planets. Often referred to as the Superguardians, they are also the personal guards of the Empire’s leader (Empress Lilandra Neramani in X-Men ’97).

Writer Chris Claremont and artist Dave Cockrum created the team to battle the X-Men in the first part of the epic “Dark Phoenix Saga.” They’ve been a key, reoccurring part of X-Men lore ever since. The group has also encountered the likes of the Guardians of the Galaxy, the Nova Corps, the Skrulls, the Kree, and the Starjammers.

The team comprises heroes (or villains, depending on the specific story) considered the most formidable members of each race in the Shi’ar Empire. The original team members were imitations of DC Comics’ Legion of Superheroes—the most prominent example being that leader Gladiator is modeled on Superboy, and his civilian name, Kallark, is an amalgamation of Superman’s two civilian names, Kal El and Clark Kent. In X-Men ’97, Gladiator is voiced superbly by David Errigo Jr., who provides the voice of several characters in the series.

Other team members include Astra, modeled after Phantom Girl; Electron, a pastiche of Cosmic Boy; Oracle, based on Saturn Girl; Quasar, a tribute to Star Boy; and Impulse, whom Wildfire influences.

Since the team’s inception, over 50 Imperial Guard members have appeared in print. It’s exciting to ponder how many of those characters will appear in X-Men ’97 going forward.

Anyone interested in reading some fantastic limited series involving the Imperial Guard should consider 1997’s Imperial Guard, 2009’s War of Kings, 2010’s Realm of Kings: Imperial Guard, and 2013’s Infinity.

The following article contains spoilers for season 3 of The Bad Batch.

From live-action to animation, many Star Wars properties have found a confident foothold thanks to Disney Plus. Now, shows that may not have seen the light of day have become a well-oiled machine.

This includes Dave Filoni’s prolific Star Wars universe. The creative force behind beloved works such as Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels can now expand the characters developed in these animated series. In addition to creating Ahsoka Tano and Ezra Bridger, Filoni has also given life to the underappreciated Bad Batch. A group of clones established in The Clone Wars, these soldiers were genetically modified men who did not fit into the traditional crop of Clone Troopers. Hunter, Tech, Echo, and Wrecker form a brotherhood of sorts, and invite one more in the first episode of Star Wars: The Bad Batch.

The former apprentice to Count Dooku, the Force-sensitive Dathomirian was once an adversary for Anakin and Obi-Wan and has since turned into an anti-hero. Cultivating an ire towards the Empire for the massacre of the Nightsisters on her planet, she has been a fascinating character to watch. Fans can see Ventress’ return in season 3 of The Bad Batch, streaming only on Disney Plus.

Disney Plus just pulled off the most mind-blowing crossover in Marvel Studios history, and I guarantee you missed it https://wegotthiscovered.com/tv/disney-plus-just-pulled-off-the-most-mind-blowing-crossover-in-marvel-studios-history-and-i-guarantee-you-missed-it/ https://wegotthiscovered.com/tv/disney-plus-just-pulled-off-the-most-mind-blowing-crossover-in-marvel-studios-history-and-i-guarantee-you-missed-it/#respond Wed, 10 Apr 2024 11:03:34 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.com/?p=1681403 A reminder that we should always watch a little closer. ]]>

X-Men ’97 is excellent, you guys. If you haven’t checked it out yet for whatever reason, you need to put that right ASAP. I get it, there are a few reasons why you might consider the series to be a non-essential entry from Marvel Studios — it’s a cartoon, it’s a sequel to X-Men: The Animated Series, and most of all, it’s categorically not set within the continuity of the MCU.

Well, that’s what we’ve been told at least. They’ve tried to hide it with the brand-new Marvel Animation label, but X-Men ’97 is 100% a Marvel Studios baby, and given that Kevin Feige has been keen for everything that comes out of his studio to be connected, it’s no surprise that the series is starting to show its hand with how it actually links up to the wider franchise. X-Men ’97 episode 5 marks the show’s first hint at a major crossover to come, and it does so in the subtlest, sneakiest way possible.

X-Men 97′ episode 5 contains an Earth-shattering Easter egg that teases a multiversal crossover to come

X-Men ’97 episode 5, “Remember It,” is so high-stakes that it could easily fool you into thinking it’s a season finale. In actual fact, though, the dramatic and devastating events of the show’s own answer to Game of Thrones‘ Red Wedding only mark a halfway point for the season, presumably teeing up some huge twists ahead. And that may include a proper crossover with the MCU.

Why do we think that? Because of a brief but mind-blowing moment that falls around the 20:15 timestamp. After Rogue and Gambit have had an emotional conversation about the state of their relationship, we cut to the starry night sky over the mutant nation of Genosha. As this is just an establishing shot, you might not be paying it much attention, but if you do and give the scene a closer look, you’ll notice a curious silhouette showing against the sky.

We’d know that bald cranium and high collar anywhere. Yes, this has surely got to be our beloved bulbous-headed boy, the Watcher.

We’ve seen similar, if less discreet, shots like this throughout the two seasons of Marvel’s What If…?, denoting that the cosmic entity is watching over a particular Earth in the multiverse. The stage is surely set, then, for Jeffrey Wright to return as the Watcher in perhaps this season’s actual finale, which would undeniably establish the world of X-Men: The Animated Series/X-Men ’97 as taking place within the MCU multiverse.

So, with this single shot, Marvel has just opened a door that could one day lead to the animated X-Men meeting the heroes of the MCU — either live-action favorites could reprise their roles for cameos in the cartoon or else the animated characters could get pulled into live-action themselves, maybe in Avengers: Secret Wars. Could Cal Dodd’s Wolverine and Hugh Jackman’s Logan one day share the screen in some form? It is now genuinely possible. Although if you’d told us that 24 years ago we would not have believed you.

‘Wonderful World’ Kdrama: Where to watch, confirmed https://wegotthiscovered.com/tv/wonderful-world-kdrama-where-to-watch-confirmed/ https://wegotthiscovered.com/tv/wonderful-world-kdrama-where-to-watch-confirmed/#respond Sat, 06 Apr 2024 17:28:49 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.com/?p=1680198 'Wonderful World' is an intriguiging Korean drama that's breaking audience records before coming to the U.S.]]>

As Wonderful World approaches its season finale, fans get ready to unravel the show’s final mysteries — at least outside the U.S., because the American audience still needs to wait a little longer to watch the hit K-drama.

Wonderful World revolves around the tragic life of Eun Soo-hyun (Kim Nam-joo), a psychology professor and writer who sees her life shattered after her son dies in a hit-and-run. Since the legal system cannot avenge her son’s death, Soo-hyun takes the matter into her own hands, tracking down and killing the man who was behind the wheel. Convicted for murder, she begins a turbulent emotional journey, connecting with other people she meets in prison. In the meanwhile, Soo-hyun starts to wonder if the death of her son was an accident or part of a larger conspiracy involving some influential people.

Without spoiling the show’s many surprises, Wonderful World has steadily increased its audience rating with each new episode, as more spectators get hooked to the K-drama’s complex web of secrets and shocking surprises. The good news is that Wonderful World will soon be available in the U.S., and instead of getting episodes dropped weekly, American viewers will be able to binge the whole season at once.

When and where to watch ‘Wonderful World?’

Wonderful World is being developed through a partnership between Disney Plus and MBC, a popular South Korean TV channel. Thanks to their distribution deal, Disney Plus airs new episodes of the show to international markets at the same time they air at MBC, which explains the show’s worldwide success. However, the deal doesn’t include the U.S., where the K-drama will only be available by the end of April 2024.

New episodes of Wonderful World air weekly, on Fridays and Saturdays on MBC. The series has 14 episodes, with the last two to be released on April 12 and April 13. In the U.S., all fourteen episodes will drop at once on Hulu, the streaming channel that Disney uses to distribute most of its international content on American soil.

Disney’s international markets can enjoy Wonderful World before U.S. viewers because, in most countries, the House of Mouse has a single streaming service, i.e., Disney Plus. As such, there’s no need to split their catalog and organize different release strategies. In the U.S., however, Disney manages both Disney Plus and Hulu, with varying distribution rules defining the type of programming available for each brand.

Still, while waiting longer to watch a popular K-drama might be inconvenient, U.S. viewers won’t have to suffer the long wait times between each episode as they can binge the whole season of Wonderful World when it comes to Hulu on April 24.
