The highly-anticipated threequel will be the first of the Deadpool movies to occur within the Marvel Cinematic Universe following Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox in 2019. The movie experienced a long swath of delays and lack of updates after it was initially announced, but following Ryan Reynolds’ reveal that Hugh Jackman is returning as Wolverine, the film has been full steam ahead with one exciting announcement after the last.

From the addition of several new characters, the return of familiar ones, and a revamped release date (or three), it’s safe to say Deadpool 3 is one of the most anticipated films of the Multiverse Saga. Unfortunately, the mid-section of 2023 proved to be a bumpy ride for the film, what with the MCU’s Phase Five and Six slate toppling like dominoes following the strikes pushing back the studio’s release schedule. Thankfully, though, DP3 has escaped relatively unscathed from this bombshell period for Hollywood.

So, when exactly will the foul-mouthed assassin grace movie theaters everywhere? Here’s what you need to know.

What is the official release date for Deadpool 3?

As we learned from the teaser trailer and Ryan Reynolds’ tweet after it dropped, Deadpool 3 is slated to hit theaters July 26, 2024.

Arguably fitting for a character as unpredictable as the Merc with the Mouth, Deadpool 3 has hopped, skipped, and jumped all over our 2024 calendars. Initially, it was coming on Sep. 6, then it was Nov. 8, and then — most recently — it was May 3. Following even director Shawn Levy admitting the filming delays were leaving it in major trouble, however, the threequel has now been shuffled back slightly to the summer months.

Reynolds himself confirmed the news, via a hilarious and adorable post on X (formerly Twitter), revealing the appearance of Dogpool at the same time:

There’s no doubt that this film has experienced its fair share of strife. After writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick were fired and replaced with Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin of Bob’s Burger only to be re-hired again, it was hit by the writers’ strike, which in turn affected how much Reynolds can play with improvisation. And that’s not even mentioning the two Disney calendar shuffles it endured. Without a doubt, the film has experienced almost as much trial and tribulation as Blade.

That being said, fans of the first two Deadpool films can sleep soundly at night knowing that over three-quarters of the cast from the first two films will return for the threequel, including members of the X-Force. Not to mention all those rumors of mind-blowing cameos, including Taylor Swift. Trust us, it’s going to be worth the wait.
