With the gazillion characters that exist in the One Piece universe, it’s no wonder that at some point, we’d all be interested in finding out who our perfect match is — even if it’s an antagonist. And here enter Zodiac signs — the world’s most infallible personality test. Well, more or less.

There are quite a few ways to find out more about yourself. On one hand, you have MBTI, but psychologists say it’s all nonsense. Then, we have blood types, which apparently are a thing in Eastern cultures. But here in the West, we’re far more… astrologically driven. So, if you’re hoping to find the character that best matches your zodiac — and thus, your personality — keep on reading.

Aries – Eustass Kid

via Toei Animation

Nothing screams Aries quite like the most impatient character you know — in this case, it’s 100 percent Eustass Kid. The captain of the Kid’s Pirates is incredibly multifaceted, and even with all his temperamental and arrogant personality traits, we can surely see all of his positive characteristics. He’s confident, courageous, and bold, always willing (and hoping) to be the one on the frontline of a fight. If you’re an Aries, congrats, you’re one step away from being Luffy’s “friend.”

Capricorn – Jinbe and Fisher Tiger

Capricorns are arguably some of the best people you’ll ever find — so it’s no surprise that Jinbe and Fisher Tiger perfectly represent Capricorns. This Earth sign is known for being hard-working and practical, and we all know how neither of them has ever given up in the face of adversity. At the same time, we’ve also seen some of Capricorn’s worst traits in Fisher Tiger, as his suspicious and condescending nature surfaces whenever he deals with humans — although we absolutely understand him.

Saggitarius – Luffy

via Toei Animation

If you’re a Sagittarius, congratulations — you’re more like Luffy than you might have noticed. Sagittarians are known for their sense of adventure, always seeking freedom and independence, just like our captain. At the same time, if you’re a Sag, you also relate to Luffy in his selfishness. Despite his inherent need to care for others, his dream comes first and foremost. He’s also overly confident, and while thus far it has worked in his favor, the same might not happen for Sagittarians in the real world without plot armor.

Scorpio – Trafalgar Law or Donquixote Doflamingo

Image of Doflamingo using his devil fruit in Dressrosa, next to an image of Law smiling with his swork
via Toei Animation

Don’t kill me — but Law and Doflamingo are the best matches for a Scorpio. Nothing screams Scorpio quite like a secretive and highly independent character — cue in Law, with his mysterious aura and independent streak. He’s reserved yet driven, just like any true Scorpion. For Scorpio’s worst traits, though, we have Doflamingo with his passion for revenge. At the same time, both Law and Doffy are incredibly loyal — though in entirely different ways.

Leo – Franky

We can just about picture every Leo in our life picking up a guitar and dramatically making a rendition of a made-up emotional song — which is just about the most Franky thing ever. While Franky is not a Leo, he might as well be treated like one because he’s the poster character for any Leo out there: He’s creative, dramatic, slightly egotistic, and very confident in his abilities as a shipwright.

Gemini – Nami or Boa Hancock

Image of Boa Hancock with her eyes closed next to an image of Nami smiling in Wano, One Piece
via Toei Animation

Of course, we’re seeing double with Gemini — the two faces of this zodiac. Hancock is unpredictable, a master manipulator, and overall, she’s a beautiful snob, just like most Gemini. But Nami’s got her fair share of Gemini flair too. She’s wickedly clever, always itching for knowledge on the Grand Line maps, and she’s a legendary quick-wit. They’re both outgoing extroverts and generally, no one in One Piece better matches the Gemini vibes than these two queens.

Pisces – Usopp

We’re honestly surprised that Eiichiro Oda didn’t make Usopp a Pisces, after all, he’s practically the poster child for Pisces. Usopp’s emotions run wild, he’s as sensitive as they come, and he’s the one guy who wouldn’t even blink at Perona’s pessimistic ghosts — he practically radiates pessimism. But Pisces isn’t all doom and gloom — Usopp’s got a Piscean’s imagination too, especially when he’s getting creative in battle, or while fixing up the Going Merry in earlier arcs.

Aquarius – Brook and Koby

Image of Brook playing the guitar, next to an image of Koby smiling as an adult, One Piece
via Toei Animation

While you may not think of Brook and Koby’s personalities as being similar, at their core, they’re actually like any Aquarian. Brook’s a musician, and inherently tied to him is creativity and innovation. In Whole Cake, we got to see his altruism shine through as he consistently put his life on the line as Big Mom’s favorite doll. At the same time, a more analytic side of Aquarians is seen in Koby. He’s a progressive humanitarian, individualistic in his beliefs — aiming to become a Marine when no one believed in him — and despite his ranking in One Piece‘s hierarchical society, he’s still a member of SWORD, showing how humane he really is — like a true Aquarian.

Libra – Sanji

Sanji smirking while smoking in One Piece
via Toei Animation

While Sanji might not have been born between October and November, he’s the pitch-perfect example of a romantic Libra. And, of course, no one in One Piece is as romantic (read: a simp) as Sanji. Even amidst his bordering-on exaggerated simping persona, the Straw Hats’ cook still embodies many of Libra’s best traits. He’s fair (unless it involves women, of course), idealistic, and extremely charming — at least from Pudding’s point of view.

Cancer – Chopper and Donquixote Rosinante

Image of Copper looking surprised, next to a picture of Donquixote Risonante aka Corazón, smiling
via Toei Animation

If you’re a Cancer, you might have more in common with Chopper and Risonante than you might think. These two are the epitome of clinginess and emotionality, always sticking close to their favorite friends — yes, I’m talking about Zoro and Law. Chopper is basically the primary carer of the Straw Hats, patching them up more times than we can count. So, if you’re a Cancer, embrace your nurturing, childlike side, because you’re in good company with Chopper and Corazón.

Virgo – Robin

via Toei Animation

If you’re a Virgo, you likely relate to many of Robin’s qualities: She’s kind to her friends, and highly intelligent — she’s quite literally a history buff and an archeology genius. She’s practical and reliable, and even Sanji trusts Robin for help. At the same time, we also know how reserved she can be — cue in Enies Lobby. Over time, though, she’s learned she can trust her friends and rely on them more and more, like an emotionally intelligent Virgo.

Taurus – Roronoa Zoro or Portgas D. Ace

An image of Ace smiling in a flashback, next to an image of Zoro smiling looking at his bounty, One Piece
via Toei Animation

While Zoro may be a Scorpio, his personality screams Taurus through and through. Leave it to the Straw Hats’ right-hand man to be as steadfast and reliable as a bull. His loyalty to Luffy is one of the most iconic friendships in One Piece, and of course, we can’t forget his love for sake and sleeping — just like an overindulgent Taurus. But of course, he’s not the only one. Ace is another perfect Taurus. Stubborn as they come, yet fiercely — and deadly — devoted to his crew and family, just like a true Taurus.

One of the things we love about One Piece is the colorful world and characters author Eiichiro Oda has created. Unfortunately, much like in the real world, bad things happen to people (or in this case, fictional pirates) we care about; even ones like Trafalgar Law.

Trafalgar D. Water Law is a fan-favorite One Piece character. Despite not being a member of the Straw Hats, he’s worked with the crew multiple times and notably helped take down Big Mom for good in Wano. Armed with the super-powerful Op-Op Fruit and his loyal crew, the Heart Pirates, Law is capable of taking on any challenge. Right?

Well, not exactly.

Law’s fate in One Piece, explained

Screengrab of Trafalgar Law using his devil fruit in Wano, One Piece
via Crunchyroll

The good news is that Law is alive. His crew, however, were possibly not as lucky.

After Wano, Law and Kid went their separate ways to confront their doom fate. Kid went to meet Shanks, while the Heart Pirates are ambushed by the Blackbeard Pirates who are after Law’s Road Poneglyph. Law definitely leveled up in my eyes after he and Kid defeated Big Mom but even still, he wasn’t a match for Blackbeard.

Fortunately for Law, Bepo was holding onto a pill from Chopper that would allow him to access his Sulong form even during the day. Bepo, now at full power, distracted the Blackbeard Pirates and ran off with Law before they could finish him off. Law asked Bepo to save the rest of the crew as well but Bepo refused, believing the Heart Pirates will make it through because they’re “survivors.” I wish I had your optimism, Bepo.

We haven’t seen Law since then and things weren’t looking great for him. Given how powerful his devil fruit is, it’s likely he’ll return in the future, with or without his crew. Oda doesn’t often kill characters but Law’s fate still serves as a reminder that nobody is safe in the New World.

Does Garp die in ‘One Piece’? https://wegotthiscovered.com/anime/manga/does-garp-die-in-one-piece/ https://wegotthiscovered.com/anime/manga/does-garp-die-in-one-piece/#respond Wed, 24 Apr 2024 09:25:20 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.com/?p=1687112 The world according to Garp.]]>

One Pieces Monkey D. Garp is a legend among both Marines and pirates alike. Not only is he Luffy’s grandfather (and the man who raised him since Luffy’s dad was out of the picture), he’s also a respected Marine Vice Admiral capable of great feats like throwing cannonballs with his hands. Since his first appearance in Water 7, Luffy’s grandpa has become one of our favorite supporting characters.

It’s hard to imagine a One Piece without Garp but the man’s getting on in years. And while One Piece is known for not killing characters — Pell famously “sacrificed” himself only to survive what was essentially a nuclear explosion — characters do die. Is Garp one of them?

Garp’s fate in One Piece

via Viz Media

The short answer is: we don’t know. Garp was last seen during a conflict with the Blackbeard Pirates and things definitely didn’t look good for the guy.

You want the long answer? After Koby was kidnapped by the Blackbeard Pirates, Garp led the charge to recover him and the mission started off well at first. Though no longer as strong as he was in his glory days, Garp was able to break off a chunk of the island with his fist (not as impressive as crushing mountains, but it’ll do). Unfortunately, Garp didn’t plan on running into a hostile Kuzan.

Surrounded by enemies, Garp directly took a blow through the chest in order to protect Koby. Garp then ordered Koby and the rest of the marines to escape to safety. As they left the island, Garp was once again stabbed in the chest, this time by Kuzan’s ice. The last panel we see with Garp shows him covered in ice and laughing with the ice spear sticking out of his chest.

A 'One Piece' panel showing Garp impaled with an ice spear, surrounded by Blackbeard Pirates.

It’s not a reach to believe Garp died of his wounds, considering they should be fatal, but the fact remains that we don’t know his current condition. I have to admit, it didn’t look good for him when we last saw him; aside from two stab wounds, people who inherited the Will of D die laughing. It did look as if Kuzan’s ice was potentially spreading up Garp in that last panel so it’s possible Kuzan actually saved Garp’s life by preserving him in ice. Kuzan sounded pretty convincing when he started arguing with Garp but maybe even this is all part of some bigger plan.

Until we get another update, it looks like we have to declare Garp missing in action for now. Here’s hoping he sticks around!

How many filler episodes are in ‘One Piece’? https://wegotthiscovered.com/anime/how-many-filler-episodes-are-in-one-piece/ https://wegotthiscovered.com/anime/how-many-filler-episodes-are-in-one-piece/#respond Mon, 22 Apr 2024 11:28:46 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.com/?p=1685883 That's not the number I expected.]]>

With over 1100 episodes, One Piece is one of the longest-running anime series of all time. The anime does its best to faithfully adapt Eiichiro Oda’s manga of the same name but, like most anime, there are filler episodes.

At its core, the One Piece anime still tells the same story as the manga, although it might take a bit longer to get there. Both manga and anime follow Monkey D. Luffy as he vows to sail the seas and become the king of pirates by finding the legendary One Piece. He acquires a crew (affectionately known as the Straw Hats, so called because of Luffy’s choice in headwear) and, while he has yet to find the One Piece, he’s getting closer with every arc.

We’ve established that the anime sticks pretty close to the manga but there are exceptions. Out of the many episodes of One Piece, just how many are filler?

There’s less than you’d expect

one piece monkey d. luffy

Out of the over 1100 episodes of One Piece, there are only 94 to 98 filler episodes in total (there is some debate on which episodes count as filler). That’s surprisingly low given just how prolific One Piece is; to put it in perspective, the first series of Naruto has 91 filler episodes out of 220 total.

Unlike other comparably long-running series, One Piece doesn’t have many filler arcs. Most One Piece filler takes place as additional scenes within canon episodes or original filler episodes, but rarely will there be more than a few filler episodes in a row. More often than not, One Piece will spend more time on canon moments rather than animating entirely new material for the anime (animating a couple of manga panels’ worth of battles over several episodes, for example). Some fans appreciate this approach but it has led others to criticize the anime’s pacing as too slow.

Regardless of how you feel about filler, watching the anime is a great way to experience One Piece

Monkey D. Luffy ranks among the most likable anime and manga protagonists of the current time, leading Eiichiro Oda’s long-running adventure series One Piece. However, his parentage has remained a mystery for the longest time. But we do have some answers now.

The Straw Hat Pirates have entertained audiences with their adventures for almost three decades, having its manga in publishing since 1997. Without much delay, the best-selling manga turned into a hit anime in 1999, which later became one of the early anime exports to reach American audiences. The huge popularity breakout of the series was such that even millennials would recognize the rubber-body protagonist of the series and his close-knit Straw Hat crew.

As one of the longest-running series, One Piece has a lot to offer, making it quite a task to keep tabs on every detail of the story. However, one of the most important pieces of background info that had remained hidden in covers forever was Luffy’s parentage. Given that he aims to be the Pirate King, fans believed that he might be the son of the previous King Gol D. Roger for the longest time. But is it the case?

Who is Luffy’s Dad in One Piece?

Ever since our first introduction to Luffy, he was seen surrounded by his grandfather Monkey D. Garp, and sworn brothers Portgas D. Ace and Sabo. Neither his mother nor father found a mention for a long time in the series, and he was never seen inquiring about them, either. However, it was long established that Luffy comes from a family of some of the most influential, dangerous, and powerful individuals.

While information about Luffy’s mother is still null, the series revealed and included Luffy’s father—Monkey D. Dragon later in the story. In the 100th chapter of the manga, the first glimpse of Luffy’s father is seen as a man in a green hood with a large facial tattoo walking through the streets. This was in the last episode of the sixth story arc of the series—Loguetown Arc, where he helped Luffy escape from the Marine Captain Smoker’s clutches.

Afterward, Dragon began appearing in the series as an important background character. However, his personal life and history are written in near invisible ink even to his subordinates and confidantes, as he did not tell anyone that he was Garp’s son or Luffy’s father. But thanks to Oda, we do know a thing or two about him now:

Monkey D. Dragon is the Commander of the Revolutionary Army

Monkey D. Dragon was born 55 years ago in the Goa Kingdom as the son of Monkey D. Garp. He eventually enlisted in the Marines, following in his father’s footsteps, but later departed because he felt that the organization’s outlook on Justice didn’t match his. He eventually became a wanted man at 30 when he joined a group called the Freedom Fighters and assumed the role of captain.

Following the Ohara genocide by the World Government, Dragon founded the Revolutionary Army after he pledged to develop an army that could fight back and prevent tragedies like Ohara from happening again. Eventually, Dragon came to be regarded as the World’s Worst Criminal, desiring to overthrow the World Government and its corrupt nobility system that allowed its World Nobles to oppress lower-class citizens.

Luffy’s sworn brother Sabo is Dragon’s second-in-command

Sabo ran away at the age of 10 to become a pirate after being raised in nobility in the Goa Kingdom. During this, he once crossed Dragon’s path and the Revolutionary commander took the time to listen to the boy’s story. He was deeply moved by Sabo’s morals and his will to reject his roots.

Later, Dragon saved Sabo after a World Noble Jalmack had blown up his boat. After the incident, he lost his memories of Ace and Luffy, so, Dragon was unaware that Sabo was a sworn brother to his son. He then took him to the revolutionary camp and allowed him to enlist in the Revolutionary Army. Sabo ultimately rose to become the chief of staff of the Revolutionary Army.

However, Sabo regained his memories during the aftermath of the Marineford War and the revelation of Luffy’s heritage. So, it can be assumed that Dragon was later informed of the tie between Sabo and his son, while Sabo learned of Dragon’s relationship with Luffy. In fact, after meeting Dragon again in Dressrosa, Sabo is shown telling him a lot of information about Luffy in Chapter 803 and Episode 752.

Dragon loves Luffy despite not being involved in his childhood

Though it seems that Dragon never cared about his son Luffy, leaving him under the care of his father Garp, there’s a lot more to the story. In actuality, Dragon detests talking about Luffy and interfering in his life since, as the head of a global criminal organization, doing so would put his child’s safety in danger. As he quotes in Chapter 1101, “A child is a weak spot for any parent.”

Dragon’s concern for his family was also noted by Bartholomew Kuma when he noticed that he occasionally watches over Luffy from a distance. Ivankov also saw Dragon constantly looking toward the East Blue from their base and wondered if he had family there, which he eventually learned about in Chapter 539 or Episode 441.

So, despite not being present in his life, Dragon loves Luffy. Unlike Garp, who is irritated and disapproves of Luffy’s choice to become a pirate, Dragon approves and supports his son’s choice. He holds high expectations for Luffy, believing he will become a great man.

Does Luffy ever meet his father?

Luffy never knew or even really cared who his father was due to his unexplained absence from his life. It is not until Garp informs him at Water 7 in Chapter 432 or Episode 314 that he learns that Dragon is his father. While reading the story of Baltigo’s destruction two years later, he sees Dragon’s face for the first time in the newspaper.

Despite now knowing his father’s identity, Luffy did not attempt to make contact or visit him. Even after a thousand episodes, there have been no conversations or interactions between Luffy and Dragon. However, Dragon once commented that they would meet when the time comes, and his son appears to believe the same. The only time Dragon and Luffy shared the screen was the debut of Dragon’s character when he saved Luffy from Smoker.

Ishi Ishi no Mi in ‘One Piece,’ explained https://wegotthiscovered.com/anime/ishi-ishi-no-mi-in-one-piece-explained/ https://wegotthiscovered.com/anime/ishi-ishi-no-mi-in-one-piece-explained/#respond Sun, 21 Apr 2024 14:17:55 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.com/?p=1685851 Yes, you can be an earth-bending boss like Toph.]]>

Devil Fruits have been a staple in the One Piece universe since the series’ inception. These mysterious fruits bestow upon their consumers a wide array of abilities, ranging from the power to control the elements to the ability to transform into animals.

From the Gomu Gomu no Mi that turned Luffy into a rubber man, to the Hito Hito no Mi that gave Tony Tony Chopper human intelligence, each fruit is unique and often bizarre. The Ishi Ishi no Mi also stands out in the roster — even though it may not be the most flashy Devil Fruit — following the pattern of repeating words like any other Devil Fruit.

“Ishi Ishi no Mi” sounds like something a sushi chef might shout. However, much like our sushi chef, the Ishi Ishi no Mi also serves up some solid, dependable offerings. Its defensive capabilities alone make it a force to be reckoned with, and when coupled with the creativity of a skilled user, the possibilities are truly endless.

What does the Ishi Ishi no Mi do?

One piece pica
Image via Toei Animation

The Ishi Ishi no Mi is a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit, which grants its user the ability to manipulate, merge with, and control stone and rock. The term “Ishi” itself translates to “stone” in Japanese, which is a direct nod to the nature of the powers it confers. Indeed in the English translations, you may have heard them calling it Stone-Stone fruit.

Unlike Logia users, who can transform their bodies into their respective elements to avoid physical attacks (like smoke, fire, or lightning), the Ishi Ishi no Mi does not enable its users to become stone in a literal sense. Instead, it allows them to blend into or merge with existing stone and manipulate it externally. This distinction is crucial as it defines the limits and vulnerabilities inherent to the fruit’s use. While a Logia user can let attacks pass harmlessly through their transformed bodies (unless countered by Haki or specific weaknesses), a user of the Ishi Ishi no Mi remains physically solid and vulnerable to conventional attacks when not merged with stone.

The concept of a character with the ability to manipulate or transform into stone is not new to the world of anime and cartoons. In fact, some might argue that the Ishi Ishi no Mi draws parallels to powers seen in other popular series. Take, for example, Kevin from the Ben 10 franchise. This character possesses the ability to transform his body into a stone-like substance (sometimes even rubber or metal-like), giving him enhanced strength and durability. Sound familiar?

Similarly, in the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender and its sequel series, The Legend of Korra, earthbending is a common ability among certain characters. Toph Beifong, a blind earthbender, is renowned for her mastery over the element, using it to “see” the world around her and manipulate the terrain to her advantage. Kyoshi, another powerful earthbender and the longest-living Avatar, was known for her incredible feats of earth bending, including the creation of Kyoshi Island by separating it from the mainland.

Who uses the Ishi Ishi no Mi in One Piece?

The user of Ishi Ishi no Mi Devil Fruit can blend seamlessly into walls, floors, and even statues, making it an excellent tool for espionage, ambushes, and escaping danger. Furthermore, the user can manipulate the shape and form of stone materials, which can be weaponized or used defensively.

So far, One Piece has only explored one character having Ishi Ishi no Mi. The notorious Pica of the Donquixote Pirates is the only known user, and you really can’t miss him if you’re following the One Piece saga. A towering figure with a distinctive deep voice, Pica uses the Ishi Ishi no Mi to formidable effect. Perhaps the most striking demonstration of his power was during the Dressrosa Arc, where he merged with the stone of the entire island, manipulating its landscape to suit his needs. This not only showcases the fruit’s potential but also highlights how a user can become a literal colossus (or golem of sorts) on the battlefield.

However, like every rose has its thorn, the Ishi Ishi no Mi has its limitations. Its effectiveness is tied to the presence of stone, which means its users might find themselves up a creek without a paddle in environments without stone.

It might feel as though it’s been forever since we went without One Piece, but truthfully, it’s only been three weeks. Which, to be fair, by One Piece standards, is quite a lengthy break — it’s just the kind of pause we’re not accustomed to.

Nevertheless, if anyone has earned a break, it’s Oda. After 26 years and 1112 chapters of consistently providing fans with peak fiction week after week, Oda should take as many breaks as he needs to maintain One Piece‘s quality. That being said, chapter 1112 dropped this week on digital Japanese shelves, and we’re just a few days away from VIZ Media’s release. So, when can we expect the next chapter?

When is One Piece chapter 1113 coming out?

via Viz Media

Chapter 1113 of One Piece is expected to be released in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump issue on April 28. While chapter 1112 has already been released in Japan, Western fans will only receive the official English translation on Sunday. So, not only do we have to wait one more day to see our Straw Hats once again, but we’ll also have to wait exactly one week for chapter 1113.

At this point, we can hardly imagine what will unfold in the upcoming chapter. In issue 1112, we saw that there was less than a minute left before Vegapunk’s transmission began, where he would uncover the truth about the world. However, the very last panel showed Saint Marcus finding Vegapunk’s snail transmitter, bound to destroy it upon sight. On the other hand, Stussy is at the Punk Records, and something tells me her final mission has something to do with the snail.

All we can do is wait for chapter 1113 to come, and hopefully, we will discover Vegapunk’s message sooner rather than later. Knowing Oda though, he might just pull a curveball on us and either completely deprive us of this information once more, or he might just finally let us hear the truth about the universe.

Wano has already ended, but we can’t quite let go of it just yet. After all, it gave us with some of the most iconic moments in One Piece. From Gear 5 Luffy to Oden’s past with the Roger Pirates, and of course, to Kaido and Big Mom losing the war.

Aside from being One Piece‘s longest arc, Wano undeniably stands as one of Oda’s best works to date. The intensity, the brilliant antagonists, the politics and implications, the sense of camaraderie between the Straw Hats, the Nine Red Scabbards, the Kid, and the Heart Pirates — it was simply a wildly magnificent ride from start to finish.

For many of us though, Wano was experienced through the manga rather than the animated format. Considering the animation quality has also reached an all-time high, we completely understand if you’re eager to see some of Wano’s greatest moments in the anime, including the conclusion of Luffy and Kaido’s fight. So, here’s when it happened.

When did Luffy beat Kaido in One Piece?

Kaido in his hybrid form during his fight with Luffy in Wano, One Piece
Via Toei Animation

In episode 1076 of One Piece, Luffy defeats Kaido in one of the series’ most anticipated fights. The animation certainly lived up to expectations — and we wouldn’t have it any other way. Using Gear 5, Luffy delivers a powerful blow to an already weakened Kaido, who reminisces about his life in flashbacks just before being struck by the decisive punch. With this victory, Kaido’s reign comes to an end, fulfilling Luffy’s promise to Tama.

This moment took approximately 150 episodes to unfold, yet it wasn’t even the conclusion of the Wano arc. Although a few more episodes remained, this was the pivotal moment when we saw Wano liberated after over 20 years, with abundant water and food finally becoming available for the starving population. The audience was just as relieved and satisfied as the people of Wano and as much as we loved Kaido — at least I did — seeing his defeat was equally gratifying.

When does Zoro get Enma in ‘One Piece’? https://wegotthiscovered.com/anime/when-does-zoro-get-enma-in-one-piece/ https://wegotthiscovered.com/anime/when-does-zoro-get-enma-in-one-piece/#respond Thu, 18 Apr 2024 08:25:51 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.com/?p=1684585 Zoro getting Enma is a turning point for his character.]]>

Roronoa Zoro, the first mate of the Straw Hat Pirates in One Piece, is renowned for his swordsmanship and loyalty to his captain, Monkey D. Luffy.

He’s on a mission to become the world’s greatest swordsman and he’s got the skills to back it up. But even for a guy like Zoro, there’s always room for improvement. And boy, did he hit the jackpot when he got his hands on Enma, one of the 21 Great Grade swords.

Enma is unique because it demands high levels of Haki control from its wielder and challenges Zoro to refine his skills further. This sword also drains the Haki from its user, which makes it a dangerous weapon that can overwhelm the wielder if not handled correctly.

About Enma in One Piece

Enma is one of the 21 O Wazamono grade swords, known for its incredible sharpness and strength. It was once wielded by Kozuki Oden in One Piece, alongside another legendary blade, Ame no Habakiri. Oden used these swords to inflict the only known scar on Kaido. This is a feat that speaks volumes about Enma’s capabilities.

Enma’s ability to draw out and convert its wielder’s Busoshoku Haki makes it unique. This characteristic not only amplifies the physical damage caused by the sword but trains and strengthens the user’s Haki control with every use. After Oden’s demise, Enma remained a treasured yet dormant symbol of his legacy. His daughter Kozuki Hiyori kept Enma until she decided it should be wielded by someone capable of maximizing its potential.

When and in which episode & chapter Zoro gets Enma

Image via Toei Animation

Zoro gets the Enma in Chapter 953 of the One Piece manga , which was adapted into Episode 954 of the anime series. This all goes down during the Wano Country Arc, as Zoro’s gearing up to take on Kaido, one of the baddest dudes on the high seas, the Four Emperors of the Sea. In the episode, Kozuki Hiyori offers Enma to Zoro in exchange for his returning the national treasure sword Shusui to the people of Wano.

And let me tell you, it was love at first sight – Zoro, being the sword-obsessed maniac that he is, couldn’t resist the allure of Enma. However, Enma proved to be a handful, even for a seasoned swordsman like Zoro, and he had to learn to train the wild stallion.

And, of course, Zoro’s mastery of Enma couldn’t have come at a better time. With Kaido and his crew threatening to take over Wano Country and the rest of the world, the Straw Hats needed all the power they could get.

Is ‘One Piece’ ending in 2025? https://wegotthiscovered.com/anime/manga/is-one-piece-ending-in-2025/ https://wegotthiscovered.com/anime/manga/is-one-piece-ending-in-2025/#respond Fri, 05 Apr 2024 14:04:18 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.com/?p=1679821 The treasured anime is approaching its conclusion, and fast. ]]>

One Piece has been putting out fresh content for decades now, and its still far from the lengthiest manga out there. The treasured story’s been in development since 1997, but its longstanding run may be coming to an end, and soon.

The talented creator behind One Piece, Eiichiro Oda, has had one eye on his story’s official conclusion for years, and the date he’s long touted for its final arc is fast approaching.

When is One Piece scheduled to conclude?

It can be hard to plan a conclusion from years out and, over the years, Oda has earned a reputation for being incapable of charting his own manga. However, considering he’s been hacking away at the story for upwards of 25 years, the man deserves some grace. He may not hit the exact timeframe he’s predicted over the years, but few One Piece fans are complaining. They get more manga, Oda gets more time — it’s a win/win!

For years now, Oda has predicted that his manga would come to an end in 2024. Since 2002, at least, Oda has asserted that it would take around 20 years for his story to complete itself, something he’s largely succeeded in, but his hard predictions are quickly proving false. Oda’s been firm in his stance that One Piece would come to an end in 2024 for more than a decade now, first making the assertion in 2014 and then reinforcing it on several occasions — in 2019 and 2020, most recently.

That year has officially come, and — while he’s certainly gearing up for an ending — there’s absolutely no way One Piece will conclude in 2024. Oda is still mid-way through a gripping (and universally popular) arc, but it’s quickly becoming clear that his timeline is off, and by a few years at that.

As it currently stands, One Piece likely won’t come to an end in 2024, and 2025 isn’t looking great either. 2026 presently looks like the most likely option, as it gives Oda enough time to lovingly craft a fitting conclusion to his longstanding story, without the need to rush through any of his arcs. Fans are perfectly content to see the story continue for as long as possible, so Oda’s missed mark isn’t rankling anyone — other than, perhaps, the manga creator himself.

Every living Conqueror’s Haki user in ‘One Piece’ https://wegotthiscovered.com/anime/every-living-conquerors-haki-user-in-one-piece/ https://wegotthiscovered.com/anime/every-living-conquerors-haki-user-in-one-piece/#respond Tue, 02 Apr 2024 16:43:50 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.com/?p=1677613 AKA, a list of some of the most overpowered characters in 'One Piece.']]>

The following article contains spoilers for the One Piece Egghead arc.

I don’t know about you, but there are several topics in One Piece that really get my adrenaline pumping. One of them is knowing that Conqueror’s Haki exists and that some of my favorite characters were born with this undeniably rad power.

So, let’s backtrack a little here. Conqueror’s Haki is an ability possessed only by a select few characters from birth. This implies that, in order to wield Conqueror’s Haki, characters must possess the qualities of a king and are therefore known as “Supreme Rulers.” Only one in a million people is born with this ability, and it cannot be learned or awakened like the other two Haki types, making it all the more unique and, well, badass.

Understanding this, we’re also aware that only a few characters have demonstrated their Conqueror’s Haki in the series, and even fewer have been depicted knocking out entire crews just by their mere presence. Coincidentally, every entry on this list can use all three types of Haki as well, so, let’s list them all for you.

Shanks

At this point in the story, we’ve already established that Shanks is one of — if not the — most powerful Conqueror’s Haki users in One Piece. Not only was he the first character to use it in the series, but every single time the Emperor appears, his Haki is enough to completely obliterate crews from miles away. Considering he’s one of the strongest characters without a Devil Fruit, we don’t doubt his Haki for one second.

Silvers Rayleigh

You’ll likely notice a pattern on this list: if a powerful captain has Conqueror’s Haki, chances are their right hand will too. Rayleigh was the right hand of Gol D. Roger, the First Mate of the Roger Pirates, and he was known as the ‘Dark King.’ Naturally, he had to live up to his title. He was one of the first characters we see using Conqueror’s Haki at the auction in the Sabaody Archipelago arc, and then again when he saved Boa Hancock from Blackbeard’s clutches. He also taught Luffy how to properly master all three types of Haki. To be able to teach, he must truly excel at it.

Former Emperors – Kaido and Big Mom

All three of the former Emperors of the Sea — namely Kaido and Big Mom — are Conqueror’s Haki users. Throughout the series, we’ve seen each of them using Conqueror’s Haki at vastly different times. Kaido split the skies during his fight with Luffy, showcasing his advanced and extremely powerful Conqueror’s Haki. Granted, we’re not yet sure if they’re still alive, but we’re going on a whim and assuming that the Former Emperors are still around somehow.

Charlotte Katakuri

The right-hand saga continues this time with Big Mom’s first Commander, Katakuri. After watching Whole Cake Island, we’re naturally more accustomed to seeing Katakuri’s advanced Observation Haki — after all, he essentially taught Luffy how to glimpse into the future. Although subservient to Big Mom, as her right hand, Katakuri naturally also possesses the power to use Conqueror’s Haki and all the traits needed to be a leader. Alongside Luffy, Katakuri released a large burst of Conqueror’s Haki to knock out his sister Flampe after she interrupted their fight.

Boa Hancock

Apart from Big Mom, I can confidently say that Boa Hancock is one of the most powerful female characters in One Piece — especially considering she is one of the rare few proficient in all three types of Haki. While she often appeared in Amazon Lily as a gag character, anyone bold enough to deem her weak might as well be considered a dead man. Although she has not been shown using Conqueror’s Haki, we know she is highly skilled in all forms of combat, primarily relying on her Devil Fruit as her main source of fighting prowess.

Monkey D. Luffy

Our protagonist, Luffy, captain of the Straw Hats Grand Fleet and one of the four Emperors of the Sea, has also awakened his Conqueror’s Haki quite early on in the series — and oh, what Haki it is. Of course, it was only a matter of time before we saw Luffy’s Conqueror’s — he was born to be a fearless leader, after all — but we were not expecting it to be such a monumental event every time he used it. Luffy’s first time using Conqueror’s was during his battle with Iron Mask Duval, as he stopped the raging bull, Motobar. However, over time, we’ve seen Luffy using it time and time again, including Advanced Conqueror’s Haki which is capable of splitting the skies. That’s our captain.

Roronoa Zoro

Zoro One Piece Wano Arc

No one truly expected to see Zoro as a Conqueror’s Haki user, but truthfully, we should have seen this coming. As Luffy becomes stronger with each passing arc, his crew must follow suit. However, the first time Zoro used Conqueror’s Haki was in Dressrosa during his fight with Fodder — but it was entirely unconscious. Only when he was properly challenged by Kaido did Zoro consciously use Conqueror’s Haki, becoming capable of infusing objects and items with it almost instantly.

Monkey D. Garp

Of course, Luffy had to come from a completely overpowered lineage of Conqueror’s users — it’s in his DNA. Well, technically, we’re not yet positive that Monkey D. Dragon can use it, but who are we kidding? Regardless, we know that Garp likely long awakened his Conqueror’s Haki, although his first instance of using it was in the Egghead arc. During his fight on Pirate Island against the Blackbeard Pirates, Garp infused his fist with Conqueror’s and Armament Haki, delivering a demonically powerful punch called ‘Galaxy Impact.’ It truly showed us why he is seen as the Hero of the Marines.

Yamato

Much like his father, Yamato is also one of the few living characters in One Piece capable of using Conqueror’s Haki — in fact, he is expertly skilled in utilizing all three types of Haki. Throughout Wano, we’ve witnessed him using Haki time and time again. He first awakened this ability as a child when he knocked out several of Kaido’s subordinates. Later, during his confrontation with his own father (where he held his own), he imbued his weapon with Haki, managing to injure Kaido. In fact, he even inflicted damage upon Admiral Ryokugyu using his Conqueror’s Haki alone.

Donquixote Doflamingo

via Toei Animation

Not all of the Warlords of the Sea were born with Conqueror’s Haki — but it only makes sense that Doflamingo was one of the few able to use it. Born a Celestial Dragon, forced to give up his title, and harboring enough hatred and ambition to fuel an entire planet, of course, Doflamingo had to live up to his bloodline. We see his powerful Conqueror’s Haki during his foot clash with Luffy, where both captains use their Conqueror’s to push each other’s foot — only, Luffy was trying to save Law, whereas Doflamingo was trying to kill him. Well, not everyone who has Conqueror’s needs to be a good person.

Chinjao

via Toei Animation

Due to his brief appearance in the series, we may easily overlook Chinjao. However, the former captain and leader of the Chinjao Family is one of the few living users of Conqueror’s Haki in One Piece. Although we only encountered him at the Corrida Colosseum in Dressrosa, his bounty of 542,000,000 is sufficient evidence of his threat level, comparable to other powerful Conqueror’s Haki users. It’s fortunate that he’s part of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet.

Sengoku

Sengoku is the type of character that is often forgotten, yet he consistently makes the cut when it comes to lists containing some of the most powerful stances and powers in the entire One Piece series. Despite his old age, the former Fleet Admiral of the Marines remains a user of Conqueror’s Haki — and supposedly, an expert at it. Although it is confirmed that he is proficient in all three types of Haki, we have yet to witness him in action in the series, but we don’t doubt his expertise for one bit.

The Five Elders

Image via Crunchyroll

The most recent addition to the list of Conqueror’s Haki users is, actually, the Five Elders. Truthfully, it’s not at all surprising to see them on this list — they are a council of the five highest-ranking Celestial Dragons, and we know that in order to be one of the Three Great Powers, they had to prove their worth and strength. At this point in the story, we’ve only witnessed Marcus Mars’ intimidating Conqueror’s Haki, but we’re sure all the other elders will reveal their own Haki in their own time.

‘One Piece’: Luffy’s family tree explained https://wegotthiscovered.com/anime/one-piece-luffys-family-tree-explained/ https://wegotthiscovered.com/anime/one-piece-luffys-family-tree-explained/#respond Mon, 01 Apr 2024 07:03:09 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.com/?p=1677985 Luffy's family tree can get confusing. ]]>

Even if you’ve been reading One Piece for years, you’re bound to encounter something confusing. Eiichiro Oda’s pirate epic has been going on since 1997 and no matter how impressive a storyteller Oda is, bringing up old plot points and characters will stump even the most dedicated readers from time to time.

For example, take our protagonist, Monkey D. Luffy’s family tree. When we’re first introduced to Luffy, he seems to be an orphan and the closest thing to a father figure in his life is Shanks. As the series goes on, we learn Luffy has his fair share of people he’s related to, whether by blood or by oath. Here’s what we know about Luffy’s family tree so far.

First, what’s up with the initial “D.”?

Via Toei Animation

It might seem like the “D” in Luffy’s name is short for a middle name but that isn’t the case. In One Piece, characters with the “D.” initial are not necessarily related (this article would be much longer if they were) but they are all connected through the “Will of D.”

There’s still a ton of mystery around just what the “D.” means but we know it’s a big deal. As we learn more about the Void Century and the history of Luffy’s world, this and other secrets will be revealed.

Luffy has two known blood relatives

Via Toei Animation

So who is Luffy actually related to? At this point in the series, we’ve met two of Luffy’s blood relatives: his father, Monkey D. Dragon and his grandfather, Monkey D. Garp. All three known members of the Monkey family are famous, or infamous, in their own way. Dragon is the Supreme Commander of the Revolutionary Army and fights against the World Government’s oppression and Garp is a well-known and respected Marine Vice Admiral (an irony considering the rest of the Monkey family).

Dragon was not a part of Luffy’s upbringing and left him in Garp’s care. Luffy only learned his father’s identity at Water 7 and doesn’t seem too interested in connecting with Dragon. One would think Garp would be drastically different from Luffy but the adage “the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree” is true in this case; despite his affiliation with the World Government, Garp loves to laugh and values freedom above all.

Luffy has two brothers

Sabo Ace and Luffy

Family isn’t only about blood — chosen family is just as important, and Luffy has two brothers by choice. We meet Luffy’s brother Portgas D. Ace early in the series and only later learn they have different parents. Although raised by Garp alongside Luffy, Ace’s father is none other than the King of Pirates, Gol D. Roger. Like Luffy, Ace doesn’t feel much affinity for his birth father and views Luffy, Garp, and his crew’s captain, Whitebeard, as his family.

Sabo is also Luffy and Ace’s brother of sorts. Before Sabo was Dragon’s right-hand man in the Revolutionary Army (yeah, Luffy’s sworn brother is Luffy’s biological dad’s second-in-command — keep up), he was a snot-nosed kid wreaking havoc with Ace. Sabo originally found Luffy annoying but warmed up to him in the end. Luffy, Sabo, and Ace cemented their brotherly bond by sharing a drink as kids. Unlike Luffy and Ace, Sabo was a noble who lived with his biological family until he ran away in order to become a pirate.

Who is Luffy’s mom?

Image via Toei Animation

There are a ton of theories floating around but Luffy’s mother’s identity has yet to be revealed (so we can’t prove Crocodile isn’t Luffy’s mom…). Theories aside, Curly Dadan, the leader of a notorious group of mountain bandits, is the closest thing to a mother Luffy has. In exchange for not turning her in, Garp trusted Dadan to look over both Ace and Luffy for extended periods of time. When Sabo made his brotherly oath with Ace and Luffy, Dadan took him under her roof too.

Dadan was a tough foster mother to her charges but she loves them all the same. Though she would often act as though she didn’t care about the boys’ well-being, she came to their rescue when it counted. She may be reluctant to admit it in front of them, but Dadan seems to love the brothers as if they were her own sons and always roots for them from afar.

Luffy’s family tree is complicated and some parts are still a mystery, but one thing is for sure: it shows us that family is more than just blood. At the end of the day, family can be the people you choose and Luffy’s chosen some great people. With people like this in his life, it’s no wonder Luffy’s forging his own path to greatness himself.
